Expert Algae Removal in Marion County, OR

Algae growth is a persistent problem for Marion County roofs. The Willamette Valley's wet season runs from October through April, and sustained rainfall combined with tree canopy coverage creates conditions where algae colonizes north-facing roof slopes season after season. Left untreated, algae stains shingles, traps moisture against roofing materials, and creates a foothold for moss to take hold and cause deeper structural damage. At First Aid Roof Care, we assess the extent of growth across your entire roof surface, including shaded valleys and low-slope sections that are easy to miss. We use low-pressure soft-wash methods that remove algae at the root level without stripping protective granules from your shingles. High-pressure washing is not appropriate for asphalt shingles and can void manufacturer warranties. After cleaning, we apply a preventive treatment to slow regrowth and help your roof stay cleaner longer. If you see dark streaks or green patches on your Marion County roof, call First Aid Roof Care to schedule a roof assessment.

Algae Removal FAQ

Common questions about algae removal in Marion County, OR.

Yes, we serve Marion County homeowners, including properties with significant tree canopy where north-facing slopes and shaded roof sections are most prone to algae growth. Shaded roofs dry out slowly after rain, which gives algae the damp conditions it needs to spread.

No, algae is more than a staining issue. It traps moisture against your shingles and creates conditions where moss can take root, lift shingles, and cause water to seep into the roof structure.

Pressure washing is not recommended for asphalt shingles and can strip the protective granule layer, shorten roof life, and void manufacturer warranties. First Aid Roof Care uses a low-pressure soft-wash method that removes algae without damaging your roofing materials.

Algae typically appears as dark streaks or black staining across shingle surfaces, while moss looks like a thick, spongy green growth. A professional roof assessment from First Aid Roof Care can confirm what is growing and identify the right treatment.

Some insurance carriers review roof condition during policy renewals and may require documented cleaning to maintain coverage, since algae and moss growth is viewed as a risk factor for future water damage claims. Keeping a record of professional cleaning helps support your coverage.

Call First Aid Roof Care to schedule a roof assessment for your Marion County home. We will evaluate the extent of algae growth, check for related damage, and recommend the right cleaning and treatment approach for your roof.

I've used this company and Mark Sanders for several years to clean my roof and protect it from moss and am always pleased with the job. But I also appreciate his knowledge and advice when it comes to the status of the roof, the gutters and vents. And he always cleans up. He's been in the business for a long time. Highly recommend.

I wish we had taken a before and after photo of our roof! Mark did an excellent job cleaning our roof; it looks like we replaced it instead of just cleaning it. They were timely, affordable, and conscientious in their work and cleanup. We will be using them for yearly maintenance going forward and we highly recommend them.

Mark and his team did a great job. Showed up on time, quoted a fair price, and the work was perfect. Will have them back annually.

Andrew Owen Google review · September 2025

Mark was responsive when I first called him for a quote. I appreciated that he came when he said he would for both the quote and the cleaning. The roof looks much better now. A few days afterward, the gutters were not draining properly even though they were draining while he was cleaning the roof. I called him, and he came out the next day. He got the gutters draining again in after a few minutes.
