Expert Algae Treatment in Marion County, OR

Algae growth is a common problem for Marion County homeowners. The county's wet winters, mild temperatures, and tree-covered properties create the moisture and shade that algae needs to spread. What starts as small dark spots can turn into black streaks across your shingles. Left untreated, algae holds moisture against your roof surface, weakens the bond on protective granules, and can accelerate shingle wear. First Aid Roof Care treats algae at the surface using low-pressure application methods that protect your shingles from damage. We clear visible growth, treat affected areas, and help reduce the conditions that let algae return. Homes with north-facing slopes or heavy tree coverage are especially prone to repeat growth, so we assess each roof individually. If you see dark streaks or discoloration on your roof in Marion County, contact First Aid Roof Care to schedule a roof assessment and get the right treatment for your home.

Algae Treatment FAQ

Common questions about algae treatment in Marion County, OR.

Professional treatment is the safer choice for Marion County roofs. DIY methods and high-pressure washing can dislodge shingle granules and cause more damage than the algae itself.

Algae typically shows up as dark streaks or black patches on your shingles. It often spreads across large sections of the roof, especially on shaded or north-facing slopes.

No, First Aid Roof Care uses low-pressure application that cleans without stripping protective granules. High-pressure washing is avoided because it can damage shingle surfaces.

Algae usually appears as streaky dark discoloration that spreads in a pattern, not random dirt spots. A roof inspection by First Aid Roof Care can confirm what is growing on your roof.

Algae itself does not directly cause leaks, but it retains moisture against your shingles and can speed up deterioration that leads to water intrusion over time. Treating it early protects your Marion County home from more costly repairs.

Marion County's damp climate means algae can return, especially on shaded roofs with heavy tree coverage. Periodic treatments help keep growth under control and protect your roof between visits.

I've used this company and Mark Sanders for several years to clean my roof and protect it from moss and am always pleased with the job. But I also appreciate his knowledge and advice when it comes to the status of the roof, the gutters and vents. And he always cleans up. He's been in the business for a long time. Highly recommend.

I wish we had taken a before and after photo of our roof! Mark did an excellent job cleaning our roof; it looks like we replaced it instead of just cleaning it. They were timely, affordable, and conscientious in their work and cleanup. We will be using them for yearly maintenance going forward and we highly recommend them.

Mark and his team did a great job. Showed up on time, quoted a fair price, and the work was perfect. Will have them back annually.

Andrew Owen Google review · September 2025

Mark was responsive when I first called him for a quote. I appreciated that he came when he said he would for both the quote and the cleaning. The roof looks much better now. A few days afterward, the gutters were not draining properly even though they were draining while he was cleaning the roof. I called him, and he came out the next day. He got the gutters draining again in after a few minutes.
